Athletic Boosters

This organization provides athletic activities for our parishioners. Boosters meetings are held on a regular basis, and are announced in the bulletin. The Boosters support a youth program which includes intramural basketball and C.Y.O. sports teams. Our C.Y.O. basketball programs for boys and girls have been very successful, and our C.Y.O. girls volleyball teams generally are among the best in the city. Our spring C.Y.O. boys volleyball program is relatively new, but it is already showing signs of success.
Previous adult programs included men's softball, couples volleyball, and men's "over 30" basketball. Other programs and activities can be sponsored if there is sufficient interest.

Dear St. John Athletic Booster Parents:

It is once again time to begin registration for the 2008 Boy’s CYO Volleyball program.  You should read the Program Description enclosed with this letter to ensure you are registering for the proper program.

1.  The Boy’s CYO Volleyball program will sponsor individual team(s) per grade level in grades 3 through 8 (if enough interest is generated).  Tryouts will be held for the teams if required.

2.  As a condition of registration, you may be asked to volunteer one afternoon of time to help support these programs.  Volunteers will be needed to work the door collecting admission fees to CYO games, run the score board, keep the scorebook, etc.  You will be contacted about these responsibilities as they arise.

3.  The deadline for registration in this program is February 3, 2008 at 9:00 PM.  If the registration deadline is not met, a mandatory $20 late fee will be assessed regardless of the situation and your child will only be permitted to participate if there is an opening in the program.  This deadline is necessary so that we can register for leagues and acquire adequate gym time based upon the number of teams participating in the Boy’s CYO Volleyball program.

YOUTH PROGRAM INFORMATION

Boy’S CYO VOLLEYBALL

This is a competitive volleyball program for boys in grades 3 through 8.  Our teams compete against teams from other parishes at the various grade levels and play about half of their games at other parishes.  We will attempt to field one team per grade level in grades 3 through 8 if required and depending on interest.  The coaches will contact each REGISTERED player as to the date and time of the open gyms and team tryouts if required.  Those not making the CYO teams will receive a full refund on the registration fees.  If an abundance of participants from the same grade register for this program, tryouts may be required.  Official practice begins around February 25 with games beginning in late March.  The season is usually over by the end of May including the tournament.  Players of teams in the CYO leagues are requested to be members of the parish or be from a parish that does not field a team in that sport at that grade level.

Girls will be notified by their respective coaches in mid-November for the practice times.

RECREATIONAL LEAGUE
This Coed League is for boys and girls in grades 1 - 2 and we accept all participants from the community. We will attempt to have ten to twelve 1st/2nd grade teams using 8 ½ Foot Baskets. All games are played at St. John or in one of the Lakota School buildings. Teams are selected by a blind draw and or player evaluation in an attempt to field teams with similar playing ability. Teams will be formed and players notified of their team by their coach in early November. Practice will begin in mid-November with games beginning in early December and ending in late February.
