Wings

One of the most famous classical musicians today is Itzak Perlman. I was struck by what he said at an awards show that was on TV sometime last year. I remember him saying that there were two things that happened to him very early in his life that shaped his life forever. He said that when he was only four years old he contracted Polio. The disease changed everything for him. He said it forced him to live life differently from other kids; it forced him to move through his life differently.  The second event from his young life was that he once heard a recording of the famous violinist Jascha Heifetz.  Perlman said that once he heard that beautiful music, he knew his life would be about creating such beauty.  As he put it, "Although Polio had stolen my legs, it was Heifetz's music that gave me wings!"

If you were to look back over your life, is there anyone who has given you "wings"? Is there someone in your past who inspired you to do good and great things?  Is there anyone now who gives your "wings" by calling the best out of you?  And then again, is there anyone in your life that God is asking you to give "wings"? One of the most valuable gifts we can give to one another is the gift of "wings" - which is in reality, the gift that helps us to see great possibilities and to do great things. Do you have "wings"?  Have you given anyone else "wings"?
