June 2007 Web Committee Meeting Minutes

Attendees: Debbie, Cathy, Brett, Dan and Steve

Guests: Ken Krusling and Carol Wenstrup from the Festival Committee

With the launch of the new Drupal web site, we had many topics to discuss. We started with the needs of the Festival Committee:

  • Dan helped the Festival Committee to put together Festival Information pages. Ken talked about the desire to allow volunteers to signup to volunteer for the Festival. Ultimately, a method for volunteers to signup and then have the Booth Captains indicate their assignments on-line. This year, we plan to start with a simple Volunteer signup form and a separate form for Booth Captains to indicate their needs. Then the Festival Volunteer coordinator can download the form results to Excel and make the volunteer assignments and communicate that with the Booth Captains. Drupal has a Volunteer signup module that Brett loaded onto the web site. Dan will test that module or create the forms using the form tool if necessary. He'll send us a link to test the forms when they are ready.
  • Some users are still having problems with the Bulletin. Dan will update that page to add a message about upgrading to the latest version of Acrobat Reader or to Right Click and Save Target As to save the PDF file to the user's computer. We also asked Dan to put a link to the current bulletin on the Home Page (on the right hand side under the Organizations links).
  • Brett turned on Google Analytics to start tracking the web site usage so that we can determine which pages are being used.
  • There is a problem with trying to insert images (it does not provide access to the files that are already in the image galleries). Brett will need to look into this.
  • There is interest in removing the word, Blog, from the pages, From Father Mark and From Father Linh. Cathy indicated that she saw something about this on the Drupal web site.
  • There are still comments about the site being "text heavy". To change this, we'd need to understand how to change themes. The Drupal web site has much info on this. To "play" with a theme, we'd need to load Drupal 5.1 onto the on-site web server and put a copy of our web site there.
  • Jerry Barney would like to have a Java for Justice form for people to use to indicate that people are interested in buying coffee. Debbie will work on this to help her learn how to setup forms on the web site.

The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 16th at 7:15PM in Undercroft E. At this meeting, Brett will setup a login account on the web server so that we can learn how to download modules and setup them up for us on the web site.
