Welcome and congratulations! We are so excited to help you introduce your child(ren) to the Catholic Church and begin their journey with the Body of Christ. Our goal is to help parents who wish to have their child baptized here at St. John have a wonderful experience of this sacrament as well as an understanding of the commitment they are undertaking for their child. Baptism Preparation is required for the first child being baptized at St. John (Registration form found below).
When do baptisms at our parish occur?
• Baptisms take place at Mass typically on the first weekend of each month. We rotate the Mass time between our 5:00pm on Saturday evenings, and our 9:00am and 11:00am on Sundays.
• Baptisms also can take place outside of a regular Mass time. They are typically scheduled to occur on the second and fourth Sundays of the month at 12:30pm in the main church (scheduling is subject to change).
The sacrament of Baptism is celebrated during the Saturday evening and Sunday morning liturgies on a rotating basis. All parents are required to attend a Baptism Preparation Program offered the third Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel. It must be taken before the baptism and it need only be taken once. The preparation programs give parents the opportunity to consider the meaning of their own faith, the Church's understanding of Baptism, and the elements of the Rite of Baptism. In addition to the class, a baptism form must be completed before scheduling a baptism. Baptism forms are available at the Baptism Formation class.
Except in the case of an emergency, baptisms are not scheduled during the Lenten season.
