Liturgy & Music

LITURGICAL MINISTERS

When the Church comes together in the liturgical assembly to celebrate the Mass, members of the congregation do not gather simply as a crowd. They gather in a variety of ministries and roles as well. These ministries and roles, carried out by members of the church, are a significant part of the Mass and sacramental celebrations. If you would like to be involved in any of the ministries listed below, please contact Scott Steinke.

Lectors

Lay person, teenager through adult, who proclaims the Word of God at Mass. Lectors read the first and second readings, along with the intercessions (unless a deacon is at Mass).

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
Confirmed Catholics of high school age thru adult who help distribute the Body and Blood of Christ to their fellow parishioners at Mass.

Altar Attendants (Servers)
Kids and adults who serve the entire assembly by their example of prayer and by assisting the priest and ministers during the Mass.

Hospitality Ministers
Open to any age group. They greet and welcome people as they arrive for Mass, hand out programs if need be, and assist with any special needs of the assembly during Mass. Hospitality Ministers also help with collections (where applicable), but those helping with the collection should be at least 7th grade or older.

Sacristans
Lay person, seventh grade through adult, who arrives early and prepares the wine, hosts, and all necessary vessels used for Mass.

MUSIC MINISTRY

St. John Singers
St. John singers lead the assembly in acclamations, responses, and hymns weekly
at all Masses. Musicians of any Skill level are encouraged to join.

Cantors/Psalmists
Cantors lead the assembly’s song and psalmists proclaim the Word at the Responsorial
Psalm weekly at all Masses. Vocal experience  is expected for this ministry.

Parish Instrumentalists
Parish instrumentalists enhance the liturgy through playing hymns and service music with our assembly, as well as occasional solo and ensemble selections.

Youth Chorus
Founded in 2003, the St. John Youth Chorus sings for one Mass a month, the Christmas 3 p.m. Mass, and other parish events.  Membership is open to children in 3rd-8th grade.

If you are interested in joining our music ministry, please stop by after Mass or contact Lynn Meisberger.
